Use JTAI in Claude and ChatGPT
The JTAI connector lets Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT search and read the documents in your JTAI hubs. It is read-only, it only sees hubs you can already open in JTAI, and your organization can see every request it makes.
Before you start
- You need a JTAI account.
- Your organization must have External AI access turned on. During early access JTAI turns it on per organization; an admin can ask JTAI support. Admins also choose who may connect (admins only, specific roles, or everyone) and which AI apps are allowed.
- Use a business or team account with your AI provider where you can. Anything the connector returns is processed by that provider under your agreement with them.
The connector address is: the JTAI connector address
Connect from Claude
In claude.ai or the Claude desktop app:
- Open Settings, then Connectors.
- Find JTAI in the directory, or choose Add custom connector, name it JTAI and paste the connector address.
- Select Connect.
- A JTAI page opens. Sign in if asked, check the details, and choose Approve.
On Claude Team and Enterprise, an owner may need to add the connector for the organization first.
In Claude Code, run this in a terminal, then run /mcp in Claude Code and choose JTAI to sign in:
claude mcp add --transport http jtai <connector address>
Connect from ChatGPT
- Open Settings, then Apps & Connectors.
- Find JTAI in the directory. If it isn't listed for your workspace yet, turn on Developer mode under Advanced, choose Create, name it JTAI, paste the connector address and pick OAuth.
- A JTAI page opens. Sign in if asked, check the details, and choose Approve.
Using it
Ask in plain language and the AI app picks the tools. For example:
- “What hubs do I have in JTAI?”
- “Search my Housing hub for the notice requirements for a 30 day notice to quit.”
- “Summarize the lease in the Vega matter and cite the sections you used.”
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
List hubs list_hubs | Lists the hubs you can open in JTAI. |
List documents list_documents | Lists documents in one hub or all your hubs, with short summaries. |
Search hub documents search_hubs | Finds the most relevant passages in your documents, with filenames. |
Search document summaries search_summaries | Finds which documents are about a topic. |
Get document summary get_document_summary | Returns the full summary and details of one document. |
Read document sections read_document_sections | Reads a document in order, a few sections at a time. |
Each connection can make up to 60 requests a minute.
What it cannot do
- Change, delete, upload or send anything. Every tool is read-only.
- See hubs you can't open in JTAI, or any other organization's data.
- Reach your connected systems (SharePoint, LegalServer and others) directly. It reads what is already in your hubs.
Your data
- JTAI receives only the tool requests the AI app sends (for example a search query), never your conversation.
- Every request is recorded in a tamper-evident log that your organization's admins can review and export (Admin, then Logs, then Claude & ChatGPT). The log keeps the size of search queries, not their text.
- Results include document text, which the AI app processes under your agreement with its provider. JTAI does not control how Anthropic or OpenAI retain data.
- More detail is in our privacy policy and on our security page.
Disconnect
- Remove JTAI from the connectors in Claude or ChatGPT.
- Admins can revoke anyone's connection in Admin, then Logs, then Claude & ChatGPT. It stops working within a minute.
- Turning the feature off for the organization stops every connection.
Troubleshooting
- “External AI access is not turned on for your organization”: ask an admin to request it from JTAI.
- “Your organization does not allow this AI app” or “has not given your role access”: ask an admin in your organization.
- “This connection no longer has access”: disconnect and connect again.
- “Too many requests”: wait a minute and try again.
